Obama calls on Israel to return to the borders that existed before it destroyed THREE armies in SIX days
Why on Earth would a serious nation interested in preserving itself ever give up territory it won by fighting a war?
This is the kind of remark you make when you either: a) hate Israel with the burning heat of a thousand suns, or b) you have no f*cking idea what you are talking about with regard to international matters and geo-politics.
Israel had to capture this territory because Syria, Egypt and Jordan were using it before the 1967 war to launch attacks against Israel, which is a tiny country vulnerable on 3 sides. So it launched a war to pre-empt the war that was coming one way or another, and it proceeded to annihilate THREE armies in six days. And they captured the strategic Golan Heights from Syria, the West Bank of the Jordan River from Jordan, and the entire Sinai Peninsula from Egypt.
They won the war and the territory. It’s over, and it’s been over for 44 years, and it belongs to Israel now. But the larger point is this: it is delusional to pretend that returning that land is going to silence the calls for more and more concessions from Israel. That’s what these con artists do - demand concessions from Israel. If anything, it will embolden the calls for more concessions, because it will have “worked”, and because it shows Israel to be weak and passive and too clueless to avoid strategic errors that make it less safe.
Many and various charlatans and sabre-rattlers in the Middle East - like Arafat, and Nasser, it’s quite a long list - have made careers and riches by exploiting sympathy for the displaced Palestinians - whose own governments, by the way, could have taken them in anytime over the last, oh, 63 years, ever since Israel was founded by U.N. decree. But instead of helping the Palestinians themselves, by absorbing them into their countries and actually, you know, helping them in that way, they use these people and their cause whenever possible for political purposes, to both bash Israel and to shakedown the U.N. and other yahoos for more cash.
It’s a total scam, and it makes me ill. And to hear Obama fall right in with this bullshit doesn’t surprise me, but it disappoints me, because it proves beyond all doubt that he is not a defender of freedom except when and where it suits him politically. He should be ashamed of himself.
And it also proves beyond all doubt that he is clearly compromised about Middle East politics, whether by ignorance or hate, so we can put him down in the “to be ignored on all things Middle East” column for the rest of his political career. Which is hopefully over in about 18 months.
